Holidays are a great opportunity to get in downtime, fun time, and family time!
It’s also a great time to break the mold and do a few things that deviate from your usual routine, and create some sticky memories that’ll make last weekend jealous!
To trigger some ideas, here are 10 hints to create cool memories that will stick with you, your family and friends for years to come:
1. Tech Deprivation
Lock all technology away for 24 hours and tap into your own creativity to find fun, relaxing and exciting things to do. It may seem surprisingly hard at first, yet prove to be a surprisingly rich and rewarding day you will remember for a long time.
2. Childhood Wonder
Write down a list of 10 things you loved doing when you were seven. Then pick one… and do it! As you begin reconnecting with the colorful gush of emotions that used to enthrall you as a child, you may re-ignite that same sense of wonder and excitement in you as an adult. That will be a moment worth remembering!
3. Switch Roles
If you’re married or have children, agree to swap roles with your spouse or child for the day, and see what happens. This is guaranteed to be a fun and eye-opening experience for both of you and a day you’ll never forget.
If you’re single, or on your own for the day, pick a friend, role model or movie character you admire, and spend the day doing what they would do. You may discover some cool things about your own character and potential you’d never considered.
4. Time Capsule
Pick a timeline and project your mind into the future. It could be a year or ten years from now. Write down what you see and feel. Where are you, what are you doing, what do you look like, what are your hobbies, who are you with, what do you own, where have you been since the present. Get friends and family to do the same over the same timeline. Then, seal everyone’s future memories in a container and mark it with the future date you imagined… and only re-open it on that date!
Not only is this fun to do, when you eventually open the container, you may be astounded to discover how many of the things you wrote down, came true!
5. Face Painting
Dash off to the nearest art store and buy some face paint… and for the more adventurous, sneak in some body paint. Find a picture of your favorite animal, superhero, comic book character, alien creature, or just go with your imagination… then, pick a suitable victim as your ‘canvass’ and paint away. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, it’s time for the photo-shoot… then share with your friends for some hilarious comments.
PS… If you did a full body masterpiece on your partner, probably a good idea to blur out the “Oh Yeah!” bits before blasting pics off on social media!
6. Reality TV
You’ve got a smart phone with a video camera and record button. Use it! It’s time to create your own Reality Show for everyone’s entertainment after Sunday lunch. Donn your directors hat and tag your partner, child or pet through the lens for a day. Catch short video clips of them doing quirky, funny, wacky, rude or naughty things, then string them together using a simple video editing app on your phone that takes 5 minutes to learn how to use. Slap in a backing track, voice over, or some sound effects, and you’ll have an entertainment asset you’ll watch again and again for everyone’s delight. Remember, it’s impossible to forget a memory caught on camera, which is super cool (and a subtle warning).
7. First Date
If you’re married or in a long term relationship, this one’s for you. Invite your partner out on a first date. Hit the reset button and go back to a time when you knew very little about each other and the sparks of attraction were already tangible. Now hold that thought and plan your moves. Where are you going to take the target of your affections? What are you going to wear? What questions will you ask? What impression do you want to make? How are you going to get your partner curious, captivated, laughing, excited, aroused and filled with anticipation?
As long as you both play along, this experience could turn out to be one of your most treasured memories.
